About Me

My photo
My name is Lucner Monexe. I am the Pastor and founder of Fondation Rehoboth, which is a Church/Orphanage but more like a big family. It all started in July 2004 after I left a mission/orphanage for which I worked my entire adult life, with no intentions to start an orphanage or a church. But God had another plan. After leaving, many of the children followed me home and that's how it all started. My family and I moved out of the house to a much unfinished and smaller one, which helped us house the children... Happy Holidays!

As the Christmas season approaches, we want to wish a Happy Holiday Season to each one of you! This year was not an easy one for us: earthquake, storm, cholera etc... but we are still here! We want to thank all who helped us during our darkest times. We would not be able to do it without your help!

As we celebrate this special time of the year, lets not forget those who don't have anything to eat, to wear, and sleeping in the tents or under bed sheets. Remember to spend time with your loved ones: it's all about love. "As you celebrate Christmas, may you experience true love. Jesus is the reason for the season and He is the epitome of true love. Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!"

We hope that 2011 will be a much better year for Haiti and all of us on earth. May your hearts be filled with joy, peace, prosperity and with blessings. Have a wonderful season!

"Best of all, Christmas means a spirit of love, a time when the love of God and the love of our fellow men should prevail over all hatred and bitterness, a time when our thoughts and deeds and the spirit of our lives manifest the presence of God." George F. McDougall

A Peaceful Christmas and
A happy and prosperous
New Year to you!!!

Picture Update - Stanley!

Thanks to our friend Lynne - @Smithalso, Stanley got his bike. This is him right after testing his bike for couple of hours after getting it. thank you so much, Lynne for making it easier for Stanley to go to school every morning! We can't thank you enough!

Lynne also helped us with buying Stanley's brand new uniforms. Lynne, Stanley personally said "THANK YOU!" He is doing very well in secondary school so far! We would not be able to do this without your help!

P.S.: Stanley is that serious most of the time. That's just him.

Sincerely,

Stanley and the Rehoboth Family!

Stanley - Update

Stanley was able to start school last Monday. It was so important that he didn't miss too many classes since he is starting Secondary School. Although he doesn't have any books yet, we were able to buy the material for his uniforms - two shirts and two pants - and pay to make them. We also receive a donation for his bike! The money will be sent for the bike as soon as PayPal makes it available for withdrawal. This would not be possible without the donations we received online. Special thanks goes out to our twitter friend @Smithalso and one other anonymous donor who gave us a total of $130 for Stanley's uniforms and bike! The first $50 which we spent on the uniforms and the rest will be sent this week for the bike. Although Paypal charge a fee on ALL donations, and the fee to send via Western Union, Charnie has assumed those fees so we can stretch every dollar that we received. The material is measured and sold per inch and is very expensive now, plus the maker's fee. So, we were not able to buy new shoes for Stanley. But he is using his old pair of shoes from last year until he needs a new one or until we can afford new ones.

Right now his most important needs are his books. No student can succeed in Haiti without books. We will be posting pictures of Stanley soon.

Thank you for reading and may God Bless you!

Our Laureate at the "Certificat D'études Primaires"!

One update we MUST share with you is about Stanley, one of our oldest children in the house!

What some of you probably don't know is that Fondation Rehoboth hire teachers to teach our children through primary school years. They do wear uniforms, (as seen on the pictures) because, not only it's practical, they have a real feeling of being in school. Despite financial troubles, our teachers never quit on us; but we are afraid that we may not have them back this year unless we can pay them a little more (they've been asking for a raise, which is understandably reasonable and well deserved.)

This year's success story is Stanley. Stanley did his elementary studies at Rehoboth. Towards the last year of elementary, which is very critical, we set up after-class lessons on top of his regular schedule, which is very common practice in Haiti for students in "Moyen 2 (6th grade in the US)", and registered him with a school so he can take the official exams called "Certificat D'études Primaires" (government exams taken at the end of primary school before Secondary School). He was the Laureate for the school we registered him under; we immediately registered him to "Lycée Marie Madeleine" and he passed again and got in!

We are so proud of Stanley and his achievements! Unfortunately, he will not be one of those kids who will go to school next week because we have not been able to come up with money for anything for anybody yet. Since he is going to Secondary school, it's important that he doesn't miss too many classes. We need to get him uniforms, shoes, a backpack, books, supplies, pay the one-time fee charged by the Lycée and a bicycle, which is VERY important for him to get to school on time and avoid bus money every day, which we may not have everyday. His school is located in the outskirts of Port-Prince in "La Plaine", he doesn't need to take the main road on his bicycle, but it's a long road.

You may not be able to help us with all 11 children; you may not be able to help us with everything for Stanley, but helping with one item on his list would be greatly appreciated.

***We also help two other primary schools located in two different rural areas, very far up the mountains. One in Jean Charles located deep in the mountains of Gonaives and another in Bethel located in the mountains of Morn Cabrit and these are the only primary schools in the areas where they are located. We don't have much, but with the little that we have, we help each other. None of these schools are opening next week or next month, unless a miracle happens because we can't pay the teachers, who are about 12 for all 3 schools. They are paid at about $70-80USD a month (Based on exchange rate of the Gourdes) and we still struggle because of lack of help or self-sustainability. We are still trying our very best to have them open even if it's a month or two late, but we are determined to do so, the sooner, the better.

***Thank you for reading and God Bless you!

Foundation Rehoboth Update

It's been a while we haven't updated the blog. The children are doing well. No one is sick and they are all playing and happy kids. We added a new member, who is our eleventh child. Her name is Anaika (Picture attached).

Another update is that we are running on very low on cash and really need help with food and school supplies/tuition. We try our best to stretch every dollar that we have but it's been hard. The new school year is in the near future and we have no idea yet how we will get everyone to school.

We know that times are hard for almost everyone but if you have in your heart to make donations, please consider us as one of your recipients. Your donation goes directly towards the care of the children. 100% of it, which include the salary of a nanny who takes care of them.

Again, thank you and may God continue to bless you abundantly!
